IT and Infrastructure Team
We make sure Holiday Extras has the BEST systems, BEST technology and the BEST uptime so our customer has the BEST experience when using Holiday Extras.
There has been an IT team as long as Holiday Extras has been around. We have a team of 11, made up of help desk support, telephony support and infrastructure support who look after all aspects of IT from desktop support to networking, repairs and servers (the list goes on!). We’re also responsible for ensuring we have wicked IT systems across the group. Our sole purpose in life is to make sure our systems are fast, smooth, cutting edge and up 100% of the time so our customers, both internally to the group and externally, always have a smooth visit 24x7.
We are a key part of the business delivering the highest quality service and systems to our customers both inside and outside using new types of technologies on our sites and systems, so there is always the opportunity to innovate and play with cool stuff. Our Learning Academy, quiet Lounge, supportive environment and focus on personal development, all help our team members grow and become experts in their field! Our fortnightly “Project Lounge” days give our Engineers the chance to work on something different, extend their knowledge, create something breathtaking or simply collaborate in a project to make a difference.
We are looking for an experienced System Engineer who has been responsible for developing and maintaining core systems and services.
At Holiday Extras we have a wide range of servers from Linux to Windows with the majority being linux, all of which run in our 4 data centers and within AWS. We utilise Juniper networking products from switches to firewalls, which you’ll have the opportunity to work on and develop; so experience with networking would be essential. We’re all about automation and self healing servers and you will be key to making this happen by using cool stuff like Chef, Cloudformation and other tools. Your expertise will be called on by all parts of the business to assist with projects and ideas alongside making sure the current infrastructure runs like a well oiled machine. You’ll be joining our hardcore team of engineer’s who support the Holiday Extras Group 24x7x365 and but don’t worry we will give you plenty of training and a phone! Out of hours support would come in after onboarding - we won't drop you in at the deep-end!
A typical day would start with daily standup where each engineer updates on the progress of their tickets, along with any project updates. We use JIRA to assign tickets to keep things running business as usual, but as we support the wider group, you’ll also have time dedicated to concentrate on larger projects. Of course as we support the Holiday Extras group there will always be the need to jump on an urgent issue but thats all a part of the fun!

You must have...
- Experience of managing Linux estates (Ubuntu / Centos)
- Background in System Administration / DevOps
- An inquisitive, probing and innovative nature
- The ability to quickly change focus, prioritise and organise own workload
- A great level of knowledge in networking (all levels)
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with technical and non-technical people
- A level head in pressure situations
- Curiosity to experiment and eagerness learn new technologies
- Scripting Skills (Bash)
- Windows Server Admin Skills
