We’re the UK market leader in travel ancillaries; once you have booked a flight and accommodation, we take care of the rest. That includes airport hotels, insurance, airport parking, lounges, foreign currency, car hire, resort transfers and attractions. Almost all of our business is conducted online, either direct through our own website and app or through our network of partners that include the major travel retailers, airlines and tour operators.
We are based in our custom-built Wave and Reef campuses, just 5 minutes from the beach in Hythe, Kent, less than an hour from London.
The IT and Infrastructure Team
We make sure Holiday Extras has the BEST systems, BEST technology and the BEST uptime so our customer has the BEST experience when using Holiday Extras.
There has been an IT team as long as Holiday Extras has been around. We have a team of 11, made up of helpdesk support, telephony support and infrastructure support who look after all aspects of IT from desktop support to networking, repairs and servers (the list goes on!). We’re also responsible for ensuring we have wicked IT systems across the group. Our sole purpose in life is to make sure our systems are fast, smooth, cutting edge and up 100% of the time so our customers, both internally to the group and externally, always have a smooth visit 24x7.
We are a key part of the business delivering the highest quality service and systems to our customers both inside and outside using new types of technologies on our sites and systems, so there is always the opportunity to innovate and play with cool stuff. We are looking for a Linux System Administrator who has been responsible for developing, evolving and maintaining core systems and services.
We have a wide range of servers from Linux to Windows (about 75 / 25 split), all running in our 4 data centers and in the cloud. We also have a number of Juniper networking products from switches (EX) to firewalls (SRX), which you’ll have the opportunity to work on. We’re all about automation and self healing servers so you will be helping to making this happen by using cool stuff like Chef, Cloudformation and other tools. Your growing expertise will be called on by all parts of the business to assist with projects and ideas alongside making sure the current infrastructure runs like a well oiled machine. You’ll be joining our hardcore team of engineer’s who support the Holiday Extras Group 24x7x365 and but don’t worry we will give you plenty of training and a phone!

We’re looking for someone with:
- A background in Linux System Administration
- A good understanding of most flavours Linux (Ubuntu / Centos mainly)
- Amazon Web Services / Google Cloud Platform
- VMware Enterprise
- Responsible for maintaining a current Linux environment
- Storage solutions such as Compellent / EMC
- An inquisitive, probing and innovative nature
- The drive for a career in SysAdmin / DevOps
- The ability to quickly change focus, prioritise and organise own workload
- A keen interest in Networking and Security
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with technical and non-technical people
- A level head in pressure situations
- Curiosity to experiment and eagerness to learn new technologies
- Scripting Skills (Bash)
Would be good to have interest, or experience in any of the following:
- Microsoft Active Directory
- Windows Server administration experience
- DevOps infrastructure
- Logging Platforms such as SumoLogic
- Monitoring Systems such as Zabbix / Nagios
- Google Sync / ADFS
- Mac OS
- Perl / XML / Jason
- Working with IAAS
- Cisco / Juniper switching and firewalls
- DevOps methodology
- VoIP (Asterisk Now / Free PBX)
- Anything Tech
- Any of the AWS tools such as EC2, Cloudformation, RDS, Route53
